International Anarchafeminist Conference in London

- some of us and some friends will go there.

We are very curious what to expect, especially because we could not find much information on the internet.
When having a look at the strands, we got the impression that quite a lot, which we define as essential, was missing.
Out of this, the idea to offer an own input came up. Even though it came really spontaneous, the organisers provided a slot in the timetable for us. – Our input shall have the quite unassuming title “Gender and Capitalism”. For about two hours we will try to understand the basics of gender as it exists today (which means gender within the bourgeois – capitalist society). We will try to answer the questions what it is and how it is related to economical, cultural or other ideological developments. Maybe in the end we will even have some time to discuss about what could be the conclusion of all this for a feminist practice. We will give a short input out of a “german perspective” and then we would like to start with a group discussion.
Maybe we come under suspicion of being “bad marxists”, or communists – groups of people which anarchists (not only in Germany) often vehemently want to distance themselves from. But we will see…
We assume that the sheer enormity of language barriers could be difficulty, too. – That starts already with the translation of essential terms, such as Herrschaft“ (or “Herrschaftsverhältnis”), into English: neither “power” nor “domination” would imply the exact meaning of it. Another example: the word “Geschlecht” for which for which the speciality of two translations with different meanings – “sex” and “gender”- occurs only in the english language. – Not to speak of the possible differences concerning discussions about “patriarchy“ in different countries and languages
So far until now. We will write a report afterwards.
