audio recording of our event in London: input and discussion ‚gender and capitalism‘ @AFem2014

Out of our (not e*vibes only-)London travelling group there was an initiative to contribute contentually to the International Anarchafeminist Conference in London. This was prepared by people who hadn‘t worked together before, moreover in the short run, with quite rudimentary English skills and without knowing which preconditions and discussion backgrounds we‘ll be confronted with there. We decided not to talk for long. Therefor it was necessary to filter out a few main statements (one should really become clear about in between). We were actually rather interested in things the others have to say or are discussing in their circles. And then the task not least was to ‚lead‘ a discussion you only understand one half of ;) Now we‘re proud anyhow that we did and somehow managed it.
Here you can hear the short input and the discussion – Denglish, funny misunderstandings and crass excitement included:
input, discussion

cafém – getting to know feminism

The next cafém will happen at the 26th October 2014.

Between 2 and 8 PM there will be the possibility to design the kosmotique by yourself. There is also room for debating, playing games, eating and drinking, reading books together and planning your future activities.

Feel welcome!

Starting at 5 PM we will watch „Laurence Anyways“:

The movie highlights ten years in the life of a literature teacher named Laurence who transforms himself into a woman after years of concealing his feelings. Her tremulous relationship with her family is further complicated by revealing herself to them while she struggles to find comfort with her significant other Frédérique. Though others may not initially accept or understand Laurence in her true form, those who knew her before her transformation still know her as Laurence, anyways.

International Anarchafeminist Conference in London

- some of us and some friends will go there.

We are very curious what to expect, especially because we could not find much information on the internet.
When having a look at the strands, we got the impression that quite a lot, which we define as essential, was missing.
Out of this, the idea to offer an own input came up. Even though it came really spontaneous, the organisers provided a slot in the timetable for us. – Our input shall have the quite unassuming title “Gender and Capitalism”. For about two hours we will try to understand the basics of gender as it exists today (which means gender within the bourgeois – capitalist society). We will try to answer the questions what it is and how it is related to economical, cultural or other ideological developments. Maybe in the end we will even have some time to discuss about what could be the conclusion of all this for a feminist practice. We will give a short input out of a “german perspective” and then we would like to start with a group discussion.
Maybe we come under suspicion of being “bad marxists”, or communists – groups of people which anarchists (not only in Germany) often vehemently want to distance themselves from. But we will see…
We assume that the sheer enormity of language barriers could be difficulty, too. – That starts already with the translation of essential terms, such as Herrschaft“ (or “Herrschaftsverhältnis”), into English: neither “power” nor “domination” would imply the exact meaning of it. Another example: the word “Geschlecht” for which for which the speciality of two translations with different meanings – “sex” and “gender”- occurs only in the english language. – Not to speak of the possible differences concerning discussions about “patriarchy“ in different countries and languages
So far until now. We will write a report afterwards.

“girls just wanna have fun”? – the 26th German Sororities Meeting in Dresden

Between the 3rd and 5th of October, the 25th German Sororities Meeting will take place in Dresden.

We criticize the chauvinist, nationalist and – naturally – sexist analogon of the notorious male-only fraternities. Therefore we invite you to join their colourful fotoshooting at the Semperoper (4. oct., 3PM at Theaterplatz 2). Have fun!
